Food, cooked here
Breakfast, lunch and an evening meal are prepared in our own kitchen and served at laid tables in the dining room. Dietary needs are catered for properly, not worked around. If someone would rather eat in their room, that is fine too.
Activities that fit the person
We plan as many activities as we can within the interests and abilities of the people living here. Some weeks that is music and baking. Some weeks it is painting, the garden and the newspaper. Nobody is made to join in, and nobody is left out.
Garden and courtyard
An enclosed garden with lawn, mature trees and raised beds, plus a courtyard reached directly from several ground floor rooms. Residents go outside when they want to, not when it is scheduled.
An ordinary day here
- Breakfast is unhurried, and nobody is woken to a schedule
- Mid-morning there is usually something going on, or a quiet corner and a paper
- Lunch is cooked in our own kitchen and eaten together at laid tables
- Afternoons follow the people who live here: music, baking, the garden, or simply company
- The garden and courtyard are open, so residents step outside when they feel like it
- Visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour, not in a set window
- Evenings are quiet, with staff on hand through the night
They endeavour to provide as many activities as possible within the interests and abilities of the residents.
The garden and the courtyard
The garden is enclosed, with a lawn, mature trees and raised beds for anyone who likes to keep their hands in the soil. Several ground floor rooms open straight onto the courtyard through their own patio doors, so a resident can sit outside with a cup of tea without asking anyone.
Brightlingsea itself is a small sailing town where the River Colne meets the sea, a few minutes from the home. Families often take a relative down to the front on a fine afternoon.
Where we are, and getting hereCelebrations, visitors and company
No birthday slips past
A cake, a card signed by everyone, and usually a song. Christmas, Easter and the rest are marked properly too. In a home of seventeen, every occasion is everyone's occasion.
Families are part of the place
Come when it suits you. Stay for lunch if you like. Bring the grandchildren. The more a family is around, the more the home feels like a home, and residents settle faster when the people they love are a normal part of the week.
All of this, with the rooms and the fee sheet, is in our brochure.
