About respite care
A town people are proud to grow old in
Brightlingsea is a small sailing town where the River Colne meets the sea, a few minutes from the home. It is quieter than Colchester, the air is different, and on a fine afternoon families often take a relative down to the front. Several of our residents grew up here or nearby, and their families still live across the Tendring peninsula.
As well as Colchester, families come to us from:
- Wivenhoe
- Alresford
- Elmstead Market
- Clacton-on-Sea
- Tendring
- Wider Essex
Questions Colchester families ask
How far is Stronvar from Colchester?
About ten miles. By car it is roughly twenty five minutes from the centre of Colchester, heading out towards Wivenhoe and Alresford and then following the signs for Brightlingsea. There is parking on site.
Can my relative come to you straight from Colchester Hospital?
Often, yes. A respite stay of a few weeks is exactly what many families need between discharge and managing at home again. We meet your relative first, read what the hospital has provided, and say honestly whether we can look after them well. Ring 01206 304007 as soon as discharge is being talked about.
Do you take placements funded by Essex County Council?
Social Services funded placements and third party top ups may be considered, after a conversation with the Home Manager. If you are not sure what your relative is entitled to, ring us anyway. Our funding guide explains how it works.
Why look outside Colchester for a care home?
Because the homes close in tend to be large. Stronvar has seventeen residents, a settled team, published fees and the sea a few minutes away. For many families the extra twenty minutes in the car buys a home where everyone knows their mother by name.
