Led by Peter, the Home Manager
A care home is only ever as good as the people in it. Ours is a small, settled team led by Peter, and it changes very little from year to year.
Peter is the person who answers the phone in office hours, who meets your relative before any move, and who you will meet on your first visit. There is no regional manager and no head office between you and the person responsible for the home.
- Led by Peter, the Home Manager, who you will meet on your first visit
- Very low staff turnover, which matters enormously in dementia care
- A team small enough that everyone knows all seventeen residents
- The same familiar faces day after day, not a rota of strangers
Everyone here is part of the care
Families write about all of us, from the manager to the cleaner, because in a home this size every person matters to every resident.
The Home Manager
Peter runs the home day to day, does the assessments, talks fees through honestly, and is the person to ring with anything at all.
The care team
On site 24 hours a day, every day. The carers who help with the morning, the meals and the night, and who know how each person likes things done.
The kitchen
Every meal is cooked here, at home, with dietary needs catered for properly. The smell of lunch cooking is part of what makes the place feel like a house.
Housekeeping
"Extremely clean and well presented" is how one daughter put it. The people who keep it that way are as much part of the home as anyone.
Photographs, names and how long each person has been here are being added with the team's consent.
All the staff, from the manager to the cleaner, have been very supportive of me as well as Dad. I have had some difficult decisions to make and they have supported me at every turn.
Continuity is the care
The person helping your mother in the morning knows how she takes her tea, which chair is hers, and what her granddaughter is called. In dementia care especially, familiar faces are not a nice extra. They are the care itself, and they are the first thing families notice when they visit.
That is why we stay small, and why we would rather keep the team we have than grow.
