Day care

A day of good food and good company, then home again

Day care at Stronvar is a day with us, with lunch, activities and company, then home again in the evening. Company for someone living alone, a regular break for a carer, or a gentle first step into care.

Day care

A full day with us, then home again

Day care is a day at Stronvar: lunch cooked in our own kitchen, something to do, people to talk to, and home in the evening.

It is the same home, the same staff and the same dining room that our residents enjoy, just for the day. For someone living alone it is company and a proper meal. For someone caring at home it is a regular, reliable break. For many families it is the first step into care, taken gently.

  • Lunch at a laid table, cooked here
  • Activities that fit the person, or a quiet corner if preferred
  • The same staff, so the faces become familiar
  • £125 a day, with nothing added on
Who it suits

Three people day care helps

Someone living alone

Long quiet days are hard, and meals are easy to skip when there is nobody to share them with. A day here a week means company, a good lunch, and something to look forward to.

A carer who needs a regular break

A fixed day each week when you know your mother or husband is safe, fed and enjoying themselves. Use it to rest, to see friends, or to get the things done that never get done.

A gentle first step into care

If a care home feels like too big a leap, a day here is a small one. The building and the staff become familiar, which makes any later move, for respite or for good, far easier.

The shape of the day

What a day here includes

  • A warm welcome and a cup of tea on arrival
  • A morning activity, or a quiet corner and the newspaper
  • Lunch cooked in our own kitchen, at a laid table with the residents
  • An afternoon of music, baking, the garden, or simply company
  • Home again in the evening, with a proper goodbye

Day care is £125 a day, including lunch and activities. Respite stays, for a few days or longer, are £237.50 a day. Both are set out in the brochure and fee sheet.

Questions

Questions families ask about day care

Which days can my relative come?

Talk to the Home Manager about the days that would help. We will be honest about what we can offer, and most families settle on one or two regular days a week so the routine becomes familiar.

Do you provide transport?

Families usually bring their relative in the morning and collect them at the end of the day. If that is difficult, ask the Home Manager what might be possible in your case.

Can someone living with dementia come for day care?

Yes, where a residential setting is right for them. We meet every new person first so we are confident we can look after them well, and a regular day here is often calming precisely because the faces and the routine stay the same.

Is lunch included?

Yes. Day care is £125 a day and includes lunch cooked in our own kitchen, tea and coffee through the day, activities and company. Dietary needs are catered for.

Can day care lead to something more?

Often. Day care is the gentlest first step into care. Someone who has enjoyed regular days here will already know the staff and the building, which makes a respite stay or a permanent move far less daunting later on.
